The Chipoo (also called a Poochi or Chi-Poo) is a tiny designer cross between the Chihuahua and the Toy or Miniature Poodle. Combining the Chihuahua's legendary loyalty and big-dog attitude with the Poodle's intelligence and low-shedding coat, the Chipoo is a lively, clever companion that fits into small spaces but has an enormous personality.

Chipoos are very small dogs, usually weighing 5–15 lbs. Their appearance can vary widely — some look primarily Chihuahua with slightly wavy or fluffy fur, while others take more after the Poodle with curlier coats and a rounded head. Colors include cream, brown, black, white, and parti-color combinations. They typically have large eyes and either erect or semi-erect ears.
Temperament
Chipoos are alert, energetic, and intensely loyal to their owners. The Chihuahua's boldness and the Poodle's intelligence create a quick-witted, curious dog that is always engaged. They can be wary of strangers and may not tolerate rough handling, making them better suited to adult households or homes with older children. Chipoos can be stubborn, but their intelligence means they learn quickly when properly motivated.
Grooming Needs
Grooming frequency depends on coat type. Curly or wavy coats need brushing 3–4 times per week and professional grooming every 6–8 weeks. Straighter, shorter coats are lower maintenance with a weekly brush. All Chipoos need regular dental brushing, ear cleaning, and nail trims. Tearstaining is common and can be managed with daily eye wiping.
Health Considerations
Chipoos can inherit patellar luxation, dental crowding and disease, hypoglycemia, tracheal collapse, heart disease (particularly patent ductus arteriosus from the Chihuahua), and eye conditions from either parent. The Chihuahua's open fontanelle (soft spot on the skull, present in some individuals) can be a concern. Dental care from an early age is one of the most important aspects of Chipoo health management.
